Jyotish
Astrology (Jyotish) Consultation
A traditional reading of your tendencies, timing and phases of life, offered as perspective for better decisions, never as fear or fixed fate.
An astrology consultation is a structured reading of your birth chart (kundli), cast from your date, time and place of birth. In Jyotish, the Vedic system of astrology, the chart is read as a traditional framework for understanding your tendencies, the timing of events and the phases of life you pass through. It is not a verdict on your future. Used well, it gives perspective: why a period feels the way it does, what it may favour, and where more care or patience makes sense.
Dr. Sunil Tripathi practises Jyotish as one part of a wider method he calls Person • Time • Space • Energy. Within it, Jyotish is the study of Time, and it sits beside an honest look at the person asking the question and at the space they live and work in. He holds a Masters in Astrology and Vastu Shastra from Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University, has more than 10 years of active Astro-Vastu practice, and has carried out 500+ consultations.
People usually come with a specific question: a career decision, a marriage proposal, a child's studies, a move abroad, or a difficult stretch that has gone on too long. Consultations are held online, for clients across India and abroad, and in person.
Astrology may provide perspective, but it cannot replace judgement.
What Jyotish actually looks at
A birth chart is a map of the sky at the moment you were born, seen from the place you were born. Traditionally, it is read in layers:
- The nine grahas: the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, and the lunar nodes Rahu and Ketu.
- The twelve rashis (signs) and the 27 nakshatras (lunar mansions) through which the grahas move.
- The twelve bhavas (houses), each linked with areas of life such as self, family, home, children, work, partnership and fortune.
- The Lagna (ascendant), which frames the whole chart and depends on an accurate birth time.
- Dashas and transits: the planetary periods, most commonly in the Vimshottari system, and the ongoing movement of the planets, which show how the emphasis of life shifts over time.
That last layer is why Jyotish is, above all, a study of timing. And it is why two people with similar charts can still live very different lives: they make different choices. The chart describes tendencies and phases. What you do within them remains yours.
Navagraha
The nine grahas
Traditionally, some grahas are called natural benefics and others natural malefics. In practice, a planet's effect depends on its placement, strength and relationships in your own chart.
- Chandra (Moon) — mind, emotions, mother
- Budha (Mercury) — intellect, speech, trade
- Shukra (Venus) — relationships, comfort, art
- Surya (Sun) — soul, vitality, authority
- Mangala (Mars) — energy, courage, property
- Guru (Jupiter) — wisdom, growth, guidance
- Shani (Saturn) — discipline, time, patience
- Rahu (ascending node) — ambition, the unfamiliar
- Ketu (descending node) — detachment, insight
The method
Diagnosis before prescription
Sunil ji's first rule in astrology is the same as in Vastu: understand the situation before suggesting anything. Not every life problem should automatically be given an astrological explanation. A career difficulty may be about skills or planning; a strained relationship may be about communication; a hard phase may simply need patience and a plan.
So a reading begins with your concern in your own words, and only then turns to the chart. Where the chart genuinely speaks to the question, what it indicates is explained in plain language. Where it does not, that is said too.
He also keeps a clear line between what the classical texts state, how traditional scholars have read them, and what is a later or modern interpretation. Tradition, as he puts it, deserves neither blind acceptance nor casual rejection. It deserves study, understanding and responsible application.
The process
How an astrology consultation works
-
Share your birth details and your question
Date, time and place of birth, as accurately as you can, and the concern you want to discuss. If the birth time is uncertain, say so at the start, because the Lagna and houses depend on it.
-
The chart is prepared and studied
Your kundli is cast and studied before the conversation: the overall chart first, then the houses, planets and periods that bear on your question.
-
The consultation
You talk it through together, with room for your questions.
-
Practical guidance
You leave with a clearer picture of the phase you are in and what it suggests: where to push, where to wait, what to prepare for.
-
Remedies only where appropriate
If a supportive measure genuinely fits, such as a mantra practice or, after a suitability check, a gemstone, it is explained with its reasons. Often the most useful advice is simply practical.
Remedies without fear
Astrology is often sold through fear: a dosha described as a disaster, a planet that must be "fixed" at once, a stone you are told to wear today. Sunil ji does not work that way. A consultant should create clarity, not fear.
Not every challenging phase requires a ritual or remedy, and not every weak planet needs strengthening. When a traditional supportive measure is appropriate, it is chosen for your chart and your purpose: a mantra practice you can realistically keep, or a gemstone only after its suitability has been checked. Just as often, the advice is practical: a decision to take, a habit to change, a period to use for preparation. Where the difficulty is really about choices and repeating patterns, life coaching may help more than any remedy.
Your chart is also only one part of the picture. Some questions are better answered by reading it together with your home or workplace, which is the idea behind an Astro-Vastu consultation.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
What details do I need for an astrology consultation?
Your date, time and place of birth, and the question you want to discuss. The birth time matters most, because the ascendant and house positions depend on it; a birth certificate or hospital record is the most reliable source.
Can astrology predict exactly what will happen?
No responsible astrologer should claim that. Jyotish describes tendencies, timing and phases within a traditional framework. It can offer perspective on a decision, but it cannot replace your judgement or effort.
Will I be told to wear a gemstone or perform a ritual?
Not by default. Remedies are suggested only where there is a clear reason, and practical advice comes first. Sometimes the right answer is that no remedy is needed.
Is the consultation available online?
Yes. Consultations are held online for clients across India and abroad, including NRI clients, and in person.
How is this different from an Astro-Vastu consultation?
An astrology consultation studies you and your timing through the birth chart. An Astro-Vastu consultation reads the chart together with your home or workplace, to see how well person, time and space are aligned.
Begin with understanding
Share your concern, your birth details or your floor plan. The first step is always diagnosis — remedies come later, and only if they are needed.
