Numerology Calculator — Mulank & Bhagyank

Your Mulank (psychic or root number) is your day of birth reduced to a single digit. Your Bhagyank (destiny number) is your full date of birth, day, month and year, added digit by digit and reduced to a single digit. Both come from your date of birth in the ordinary calendar.

Worked example: 14-08-1990

• Mulank: the day is 14, so 1 + 4 = 5.
• Bhagyank: 1 + 4 + 0 + 8 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 32, then 3 + 2 = 5.

Adding the parts separately gives the same answer: the day 14 gives 5, the month 08 gives 8, the year 1990 gives 19, then 10, then 1, and 5 + 8 + 1 = 14, which reduces to 5.

Use the date on your birth certificate. If you were born close to midnight, check the recorded date carefully, because a few minutes can change the day and with it your Mulank.

Every day of the month gives a Mulank from 1 to 9. The 1st, 10th, 19th and 28th, for example, all give Mulank 1. If you were born on a single-digit day, say the 7th, that digit is your Mulank. For the 29th, 2 + 9 = 11 and 1 + 1 = 2. Some traditions keep 11 and 22 as "master numbers" instead of reducing them; Indian numerology usually reduces everything to 1–9.

In Indian numerology, each number from 1 to 9 is traditionally linked to a planet:

• 1: Surya (Sun)
• 2: Chandra (Moon)
• 3: Guru (Jupiter)
• 4: Rahu
• 5: Budh (Mercury)
• 6: Shukra (Venus)
• 7: Ketu
• 8: Shani (Saturn)
• 9: Mangal (Mars)

Your Mulank is usually read as your everyday nature: how you think, react and relate. Your Bhagyank is read as the broader direction of your life and the qualities it asks you to develop. When the two are the same, as in the example above, those qualities are said to be emphasised; when they differ, you carry something of both.

Read the result as an indication for reflection, not a reading. A number describes tendencies. It does not decide your career, marriage, money or health, and a "difficult" number is not a defect to fear. Different books also describe the numbers a little differently.
